The Department of Economics was established in 2012 and is among the biggest in the larger school of Business & Economics, It offers following degree programmes; Bachelor of Economics, Bachelor of Economics & Finance and Bachelor of Economics & Statistics, Master of Economics, and Master of Economics Policy.
The Department offers specialized training on three thematic areas, Economics Theory; Applied Economics and Econometrics. Applied Economics involves the application of economic analysis to specific problems in both the public and private sectors. It particularly fosters quantitative and empirical studies, the results of which are of use in the practical field, and thus helps to bring economic theory nearer to reality. Economic Theory; Economic theory provides a framework for understanding and analyzing economic phenomena and worthy to note: Economics is rich in theory and Econometrics which involves’ the application of statistical and mathematical theories to economics for the purpose of testing hypotheses and forecasting future trends. Econometrics takes economic models and tests them through statistical trials.
The Department’s programmes prepare all round students who are competitive and ready for the job market. These students enjoy the knowledge and skills of experienced and competent staff. Furthermore, the courses that are offered by the department are in line with the Kenya Vision 2030 and the SDGs.
The Department aspires to maintain strong links with public, international and regional organizations with aim of furthering the department and school’s vision. Toward the end of the Year 2018, the department will hold its maiden graduation and we invite all Graduates to form a strong alumni. We also invite other stakeholders to partner with the Department on its road to achieve its vision.
